ANSA - Italian inflation up to 4.2% in September, highest level in three years - Istat

Rise from 3.3% in August driven by soaring energy prices

Fuelled by soaring energy prices, Italy's annual inflation rate climbed to 4.2% in September, up from 3.3% in August, according to preliminary data released by Istat on Wednesday.
It is the highest level since the annual inflation rate was 5.3% in September 2023.
"The acceleration of inflation was mainly due to the dynamics of prices of regulated energy products (from +18.6% to +25.9%), of non-regulated energy products (from +17.0% to +22.2%) and of unprocessed food (from +3.8% to +5.5%)," the national statistics agency said.
Istat said its consumer price index was up 0.7% in month-on-month terms.
