TIRANA, Sept 28 /ATA/ - Albania's National Museum of Photography “Marubi” will take part for the first time in Archivi Aperti (Open Archives), an Italian initiative dedicated to photographic archives and heritage across 12 regions of Italy.

As the newest member of Rete Fotografia, Marubi will participate in the 12th edition of Archivi Aperti, which will run from Oct. 16 to Oct. 25 and bring together museums, archives and photographic institutions.

The initiative's first expansion beyond Italy will bring the northern Albanian city of Shkoder and its photographic heritage into an international dialogue.

This year's edition will explore the theme “Reflected Identities:

Society Through Photography”, inviting reflection on the role of photography in documenting, interpreting and shaping a society's collective memory.

“A photographic archive preserves more than images: it preserves faces, places, events, transformations and stories that together form our collective memory,” Marubi said. “Preserving, studying and opening these archives allows us to revisit the past from new perspectives and bring to light stories and viewpoints that may have remained unseen.”

Marubi museum said its inclusion in the international network would place Shkoder in a new dialogue about photography, archives and memory.

“From Italy to Albania, photography becomes a bridge connecting memory, territory and identity,” the museum said.

Marubi announced it would publish its full programme for Archivi Aperti 2026 at a later date.
