The construction of AS Roma's new stadium in the Pietralata district of the Italian capital has been given the green light by the inter-agency conference for the decision, the government's special commissioner, Massimo Sessa, announced on Monday.
    Sessa said he signed the authorization and Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri had countersigned it in his capacity as deputy commissioner.
    Three-time Serie A champions Roma currently play their home games at the Stadio Olimpico, which they share with city rivals Lazio and which is owned by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).
    Lazio have presented a project to renovate Rome's Stadio Flaminio and make it their new home.
    The Flaminio has fallen into a state of neglect after the Italian national rugby team stopped using it for its Six Nations games following the 2011 tournament and moved to the Olimpico.
