The number of Italian workers aged over 55 increased by 65% between 2019 and 2025, Gabriele Fava, the president of pensions-and-social-security agency INPS, said at the presentation of a report on Thursday.
    "This is a sign that people are working longer because the population structure in our country has changed," Fava said, stressing that "living longer does not automatically mean being able to work longer.
    "Not all jobs take the same toll, and not everyone reaches the same age with the same resources," he continued.
    "The political crux of longevity emerges here, along with the imperative to place women at the centre of any strategy for sustainability.
    "Equality does not consist in treating lives that have experienced different hardships in the same way, but in recognizing those differences".
