Italy's employment rate for people aged 15-64 rose by 0.4 of a percentage point in the second quarter with respect to the previous three months, taking it up to a record high of 63.1%, Istat said on Friday.
    The national statistics agency said a new high of 24.363 million people were in work here in the second quarter, 155,000 more than in the January-March period and 246,000 more than in the second quarter of 2025.
    Istat said the unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 5.6% in the second quarter, while the inactivity rate fell to 33.0%, a drop of 0.5 percentage points.
    It said the number of working-age people who are not active on the labour market fell by 140,000 compared to the second quarter of last year, primarily because of a reduction of 107,000 in the number of people not looking for a job because they have no hope of getting one.
