Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio is resigning from all positions he held at EssilorLuxottica to focus on new business projects, spokesperson for the Italian-French group said Tuesday, confirming a media report.
"We thank Leonardo Maria for contributing to the group's growth and the realization of his father's strategic vision.
We wish him the same success in his new venture," the Essilux spokesperson added after the 'Milano-Finanza' preview.
Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio stepped down as president of Ray-Ban and chief strategy officer of the Italian-French giant in a letter to Francesco Milleri, the group's chairman and CEO, and the board.
In the letter, the founder's son—as reported by Milano Finanza—addresses Milleri and speaks, among other things, of a "distant" and "impersonal" corporate management, far from the people "who must return to the center" of the group, as was the case with Luxottica twenty years ago.
LMDV also holds a 12.5% stake in the controlling holding company Delfin, which, together with approximately 32.4% of Essilux, holds over 17% of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, approximately 10% of Generali, 2.7% of UniCredit, and de facto control of the international real estate group Covivio.
The late founder Leonardo Del Vecchio's eight heirs have never reached an agreement on the execution of the founder's will, after he died over four years ago.
