Australian maverick and former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios, the leading exponent of the argument that Jannik Sinner was spared a lengthy ban for using a banned steroid because of his star status, has tested positive for cocaine.
The 31-year-old from Canberra, Sinner's biggest accuser during the Clostebol scandal, has been suspended after testing positive for the recreational drug, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced Wednesday.
When five-time slam winner and world number one Sinner agreed to a three-month ban with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)—from February to May 2025—for negligent contamination with Clostebol contained in an ointment applied by his later fired trainer, Kyrgios called it "a bad day for tennis" and "disgusting" and said anyone else would have got a multi-year ban.
Kyrgios, who has been open about his struggles with depression and self-harm, called his cocaine use "a huge mistake".
