NNA - President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, affirmed to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani that "Lebanon remains committed to establishing fraternal relations between the two countries based on cooperation, coordination and mutual non-interference in the internal affairs of both countries."
President Aoun added, "We are committed to Syria's stability just as Syria is committed to Lebanon's stability. I am satisfied with the coordination between the two countries, particularly in the areas of border control, preventing the smuggling of people and weapons, and combatting anything that is harmful to the security of both countries."
Aoun added "President al-Sharaa has confirmed to me in more than one meeting and phone call that Syria’s role will not be the same as it was in the past, and that a new chapter has been opened between our two countries in which Syria will not side with one Lebanese party against another, but rather will stand alongside all Lebanese."
President Aoun also welcomed "the formation of the Joint Higher committee between the two countries to preserve the interests of both Lebanon and Syria."
Minister Shaibani conveyed to President Aoun the greetings of President Ahmed Al-Sharaa along with an official invitation to visit Damascus, stressing that his visit aims to "strengthen bilateral relations and enhance coordination between the two countries, particularly in the economic sphere."
