Sassuolo said Friday that they have appointed Alberto Aquilani as their new coach after Fabio Grosso left the club to take over at Fiorentina.
    It will be former AS Roma, Liverpool and Italy midfielder Aquilani's first stint in charge of a top-flight club.
    Last season he led Catanzaro to the Serie B playoffs, where they lost to Monza in the final.
    Aquilani, 41, has also coached Pisa in the second tier.
