Istat said Thursday that its consumer-confidence index was up in May after two months of falls, rising from 90.8 to 93.4 points.
The national statistics agency said that, despite the increase, the index remained below the level of the first two months of the year.
It added that its business-confidence index was down again, falling from 95.1 to 94.1.
Confidence fell in both market services and construction (from 98.9 to 96.8 and from 100.8 to 99.4 respectively) and remained stable in manufacturing (at 87.9), and improved in retail trade (rising from 100.8 to 101.0).
