Lufthansa said Tuesday that it will exercise its option to buy an additional 49% of ITA Airways from the Italian government in June for 325 million euros, taking its stake up to 90%.
ITA is the slimmed-down successor to Alitalia, and was set up in 2020 after the long loss-making former flag-carrier went bankrupt.
Germany's Lufthansa, which acquired a 41% stake of ITA last year, said the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
"Following this, ITA Airways will be fully integrated into the Lufthansa Group, both organizationally and financially," it said in a statement.
