ATA - 2026 European Wrestling Championships kick off in Tirana with over 600 competitors

TIRANA, April 21/ATA/ Tirana takes center stage this April, hosting the Senior European Wrestling Championships 2026.

The best in European wrestling gather to compete in freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women's styles.

The 'Feti Borova' Olympic Park opened its doors yesterday for an intense week of competition.

The opening ceremony expertly blended artistic performance and sport, creating a festive atmosphere.

Albanian Wrestling Federation President Sahit Prizreni hailed the championship as a premier opportunity to boost the country’s international image.

The championships opened in Tirana with Greco-Roman action, featuring 55, 63, 77, 87, and 130 kg categories. Following a morning of action-packed qualifying matches and quarterfinals, the afternoon shift determined the finalists. The medal bouts commence today, with the tournament continuing through Sunday to include women’s and freestyle competitions.

Griseld Kodra (130 kg), Kevin Kupi (77 kg) and Marjan Kola (87 kg) competed for Albania. Kodra was defeated in the 1/8 stage by Azerbaijani wrestler Kandelaki with a score of 11-0, while Kupi was defeated 4-0 by Hungarian Fritsh. Kola was also defeated with technical superiority, 9-0.

With 38 nations represented by over 600 athletes, Albania is geared for a competitive championship, targeting a podium spot.
