ATA - Transparency Board remains in place until price stabilization, food prices also under watch, says Ibrahimaj

TIRANA, March 27 /ATA/-By Arbi Fortuzi/ During a press conference on Friday, Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj announced that the transparency board will remain in place until market prices stabilize and bounce back to pre-crisis levels, provided that commodity prices on the stock exchange also return to their pre-crisis levels.
Minister Ibrahimaj, responding to journalists’ inquiries regarding the trend of fuel prices and more, emphasized that ‘The transparency board does not have a set end date for its activity. We will keep the board up and running until prices stabilize and return to pre-crisis levels.’
Minister Ibrahimaj assured that the government will work to bring fuel prices back to pre-crisis levels, unlike the usual situation where prices stay high even after contributing factors fade. However, she said, as fuel importers rather than producers, prices are influenced by global market conditions.
With regard to interventions to support those in need, Ibrahimaj pointed out that ‘fuel accounts for about 2% of the consumption basket, which applies to middle-class families, not to vulnerable groups or pensioners.
“For vulnerable groups and pensioners, Ibrahimaj emphasized that ‘as was the case during the previous crisis, the most sensitive factor for these groups is the price of electricity, as it is used for heating, cooling, and of course for food and the basic consumption basket. Therefore, if intervention is needed, we will do as we have done before, by not changing the electricity price, absorbing the cost of market fluctuations, and intervening through support packages for those in need,’ said Ibrahimaj.

She further stated that food prices are under constant watch.

‘We are conducting daily monitoring of food price trends as well as energy and grain market fluctuations. Fortunately, there has not been a substantial impact on these markets thus far. However, we will continue to track them closely, and I assure you that this remains a key priority for the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, Infrastructure, and the Albanian government,’ concluded Ibrahimaj.”
