Italy registers second gold of Winter Paralympics

Italy's Chiara Mazzel won the gold medal in the women's Super-G event for the visually impaired at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics on Monday while Giacomo Bertagnolli won silver in the men's event.
Mazzel's triumph gave the host nation its second gold of the Games after Emanuel Perathoner won the men's snowboard cross in the SB-LL2 category on Sunday.
It is Mazzel's second medal at Milano Cortina, together with her guide Nicola Cotti, after she took silver in the women's downhill on Saturday.
"This gold medal is much heavier than the silver medal in the downhill," said Mazzel, 29.
"I'm very happy with how it went, especially because, during the reconnaissance this morning, I started having a terrible headache and almost didn't want to start because I couldn't keep my balance.
"I'm super satisfied with how I handled this inconvenience too".
Bertagnolli also claimed his second medal of the Games after taking bronze in the men's downhill for the visually impaired at the weekend with his guide Andrea Ravelli.
He has now won 10 Olympic medals, including four golds.
