Italy's national debt stood at 3.0955 trillion euros at the end of 2025, up from 2.9669 trillion at the end of 2024, the Bank of Italy said on Monday.
The central bank added, however, that the public debt was down from 3.1249 trillion euros in November.
It said the year-on-year rise was determined, among other things, by an increase in the public sector borrowing requirement of 109.2 billion euros and a 14.7-billion-euro increase in Treasury's liquid assets.
It said the proportion of Italy's national debt held by the central bank dropped from 21.6% in 2024 to 18.5% last year.
