ANSA - Milano Cortina: Italy seek to continue blistering start

Hosts set new record with six medals on Sunday after winning three on Saturday

Hosts Italy on Monday are seeking to continue their blistering start to Milano Cortina 2026, having claimed six medals on Sunday, the most the national team has ever won on a single day at a Winter Olympics, after bagging three on Saturday.
Francesca Lollobrigida won the Azzurri's first gold of the Games on Saturday with her triumph in the women's 3,000 metres speed skating on her 35th birthday after Alpine skiers Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris won silver and bronze respectively in the men's downhill.
On Sunday Sofia Goggia took bronze in the women's downhill to make the Olympic podium in the event for the third consecutive time, having won gold in Pyeongchang in 2018 and silver at Beijing Pechino 2022.
Then there was silver for the Italy's mixed relay biathlon team and bronzes for the figure skating team, for Lucia Dalmasso in the women's parallel giant slalom snowboarding, for Riccardo Lorello in the men's 5000 metres speed skating and for Dominik Fischnaller in the men's singles luge.
