TIRANA, Feb 5 /ATA/ – The documentary film “Nuse” (Bride) showcases the singing of women from the northern Albanian region of Zadrima, presenting it as a form of cultural memory and resilience.
Created by composer Robert Bisha, who also provides the original electro-acoustic music, the film seeks to critique systems that appropriate or silence cultural heritage, reflecting on the legacies of dispossession and identity suppression under past regimes.
Rather than documenting specific rituals, “Nuse” captures the archetypes of ceremonial practices through bridal songs.
The monodic voices of women, the poetic and sometimes mystical lyrics in the northern Gheg dialect, historical references, and minimalist melodic structures combine to create a deeply evocative narrative of transition and memory.
The documentary is scheduled to screen Thursday evening at the Agimi Art Centre.
The project is supported by the Swiss Cultural Fund, under the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and implemented by the Centre for Business, Technology and Leadership (CBTL).
