APS - Algeria elected vice-chair of United Nations NGO Committee Bureau for 2026

NEW YORK (United Nations) - Algeria was elected in New York as vice-chair of the Bureau of the United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) for 2026, during the opening of the Committee's regular session.

This election reflects the international confidence placed in Algeria and acknowledges its active involvement in the work of this UN body. The recognition also highlights the significant priority the Algerian authorities place on civil society, which is playing an increasingly vital role in the country's socio-cultural and economic spheres.

The NGO Committee is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is primarily responsible for reviewing applications for consultative status submitted by NGOs and evaluating the quadrennial reports provided by organizations already holding consultative status with the Council.

Algeria has been a member of the NGO Committee since 2023.
