Lusa - Business News - Portugal: PM hails plurality, media independence on World Press Freedom Day

Lisbon, May.3,2024(Lusa)- Portugal's prime minister, Luís Montenegro, celebrated World Press Freedom Day on Friday, stressing the need to defend the plurality and independence of journalists.
"Freedom to inform is a fundamental pillar of democracy," wrote Montenegro in a post on his official X account (formerly Twitter).
"On World Press Freedom Day, it is important to reinforce the need to defend the plurality, independence and sustainability of a free media, in order to guarantee an informed citizenry," the post continues.
This year's World Press Freedom Day is dedicated to the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.
