Lusa - Business News - Portugal: People weaning themselves off consumer loans
Lisbon, May 15, 2019 (Lusa) – New consumer loans fell 5.8% to €285 million and car loans dropped 9.7% to €238 million in March compared with the same month in 2018 to a total of €523 million, the Bank of Portugal said on Wednesday.
In terms of the number of loans, there were 9.9% fewer for personal credit, with 41,887 agreements and 7.0% fewer for cars, with 17,048 agreements.
Furthermore, new loans through credit cards and overdrafts fell 2.4% to €94 million.
